Introduction: 

Meals on Wheels, along with other Home and Community Care services, aim to assist the elderly and those with disabilities to remain living independently for as long as possible.

People may not be able to cook for themselves for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the service is received for a short time, such as after a hip replacement operation. In most cases the meals are provided on an on‑going basis for people who for various reasons are unable to prepare food for themselves.

This vital nutritional supplement to daily diet is complimented by the monitoring and social welfare component of the service. Volunteers often alert their supervisors if a client’s health is deteriorating. This early intervention and prompt medical attention can often prevent hospitalization or in some cases, permanent care.

 什么是meals on wheels？

Meals on wheels是澳大利亚的公益慈善机构，Australia Meals On Wheels Association隶属于澳洲政府提供的Home and Community care services，由Department of Human Services资助。这个机构主要为生活自理有困难的残疾人和老年人提供送餐服务，并且仅收取少量费用，希望使用此服务的申请人都会经过慈善机构的审核，会有专门的工作人员上门检视申请人是否符合服务要求。

 具体操作方式是？

根据地区和配送服务商的不同，Meals on wheels每餐收取$6 - $10澳元不等，根据每位申请人自理情况的不同，每周5-7天MOW会送餐上门，每一顿则会提供2-3个主菜。维多利亚州的MOW项目餐食分为hot热菜、chilled冷菜、pasterurized经巴氏消毒法的餐食、及frozen冷冻的餐食四种。

 meals on Wheels的好处是？

MOW员工大多为致力于慈善的志愿者，送餐的工作人员们都有“duty of care and monitoring”（护理及监督责任）。工作人员需要在送餐时关注被送餐人的身体和精神状态，如果遇到被送餐人没有应门的情况时需要立即联系被送餐者的next of kin（最亲的亲属, 近亲）。MOW服务的受益人将时刻得到MOW项目工作人员的照料及关心。

此外，MOW还会定期进行民意调查，探究受益人对服务提供商的满意度、对MOW的改进建议及对MOW的需要程度。
