Mostra di Architettura di Venezia, the architecture section of the Venice Biennale, was established in 1980, although architecture had been a part of the art biennale since 1968.
As well as addressing the academic side of architecture, the Biennale provides an opportunity for architects and designers to showcase new projects, arranged in different pavilions, each with different themes.
The 16th International Architecture Exhibition runs from May 26th to November 25th 2018 in the Giardini and Arsenale venues, and in other locations in Venice. The Biennale Architettura 2018 is titled FREESPACE, a word which describes a generosity of spirit and a sense of humanity at the core of architecture's agenda.
