教育类话题:考试的利弊

Topic: Somepeople think that examinations have some bad effects on students. Some peoplesay they have some good effects on education. Discuss both sides and give youropinion.

前段时间,米国好多家长反对小孩考试要考英语语法,这里正好给大家整理几篇BBC文章:

  • 反对某事:

Parents protest over testing young children at school.

Numbers of parents have kept their children off school for the day in a protest about primary tests in England.

More than 40,000 parents have signed a petition calling for a boycott of primary school tests,which are due to be taken later this month.

Parents in England are taking a stance against Standard Assessment Tests (Sats) and some have used social media to highlight the issue.

stance  n.观点,态度

  • 反对test的原因:

"We should be turning children into readers with the pleasure that gives, rather than relying on a testing culture," said Mr Riddell.

应该让孩子寓学于乐而不是为了考试;

The campaign organisers say children are"over-tested, over-worked and in a school system that places more importance on test results and league tables than children's happiness and joy of learning".

考试过多,太过于关注考试结果和排名而非学生的兴趣爱好;

Parents supporting the Let Our Kids Be Kids campaign have complained of a damaging culture of over-testing.

固定搭配complain of sth,有害的考试文化;

They have challenged what they claim is a"dull, dry curriculum" based around tests.

无聊枯燥的课程;

"I don't want children needing therapy because of tests - schools are becoming like exam factories."

In an open letter to the education secretary, campaigners have warned of schools becoming "exam factories" and that testing causes stress and can make young children feel like "failures".

学校成了“考试工厂”,给学生带来压力,使他们觉得自己是失败者;

The tests are so hard and unobtainable for some. It saps the fun out of learning,and once there is a loss of love for learning it is hard to get back.

考试太难了有些孩子完成不了,削弱了学习的兴趣;

  • 认为test有必要:

"As I have long argued, children who fall behind in the early years of their education struggle to catch up in later years."

He said that any short-term stresswas worth it if in the longer term it meant that children finishedschool with better results.

少壮不努力老大徒伤悲;

Mr McGovern said that tests in England'sschools needed to be tougher to catch up with international competitors.

考试应该再加大难度,适应国际竞争;

"How creative can a child be if they struggle to understand the words on the page in front of them?" Mrs Morgan told head teachers at the weekend.

如果孩子连文章都读不懂怎么能变得有创造力;

We need tests, but they need to berelevant to daily life and not abstract.

要有考试,但应该与日常表现相关而不是抽象的;

Tests allow teachers to spot when pupils need more help.

考试能够让老师留意到学生何时需要帮助;

Tests are a key part of ensuring young people master the skills they need to reach theirpotential and succeed in life.

Testing has a role to playin the assessment of children

考试是确保学生习得技能的主要手段;用来评估学生;
