People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you are doing and it’s totally true. The reason is because it’s so hard that if you don’t any rational person would give up. It’s really hard and you have to do it over a sustained period of time, so if you don’t love it, if you don’t have fun doing it, you don’t really love it, you are gonna give up. And that’s what happened to most people actually. If you really look at the ones that ended up being successful, and I quote ‘in the eyes of the society’, and the ones that didn’t. Often times, it’s the ones that are successful love what they did so they persevere when it got very tough. And the ones that didn’t love it, quit, ‘cause they are sane. Who would want to put up with this stuff if you don’t love it. So it’s a lot of hard work and it’s a lot of worrying, constantly. And if you don’t love it, you are gonna fail. So you gotta love it, you gotta have passion and I think that’s the high order bit.

The second thing is you’ve gotta be a really good talent scout, ‘cause no matter how smart you are, you need a team of great people. And you’ve gotta figure out how to size people up fairly quickly, make decisions without knowing people too well and hire them and see how you do and refine your intuition. And be able to help build an organization that can eventually just build itself ‘cause you need great people around you.

这篇Retell Lecture主要说得就是成功的两个要素。一是Passion，二是一个好的团队，也就是说要成功你需要有辨别人才的本事。第二段第一句中的Scout是指探子，Talent Scout，其实也就是能够发现人才的意思。

第一段一开始说要有激情，但是说了半天说了点：困难、放弃、热爱、坚持、乐趣、大多数人等等，直到‘if you really look at the ones that ended up being successful’这一句话，才能确定地理解说：这篇文章是讲如何成功滴。

第一段的笔记推荐就记那些实词：passion, what you are doing, hard, rational person, give up, sustain, love, successful, in the eyes of society, persevere, others quit, fail.

第二段一开始就说，The second thing is...，也就是提示了，第一段把first thing讲了，那第一段总结一下就是说Passion对成功的重要性，没有热情，容易放弃，大多数人都放弃了，第一段最后一句还说，这就是成功的难点。

第二段说you gotta be a talent scout，知道scout的同学基本上这一段内容猜的也差不多了。不知道的同学继续听到后面说 a team of great people，也应该可以猜出是说一个人不会成功，你会需要团队，make decision without knowing people too well，这边也可以听出是你需要辨识人才这一点。最后说通过这些great people最终可以建立一个组织。

这样一来所有的得分点就都有了。

Passion and the ability to identify talents are the two crucial aspects for success. Passion allows you to sustain and presevere during the process because if you will have fun in doing it. But if you don't really love what you do, you are going to give up because things can be very tough. Passion is what makes success difficult. Secondly, you also need to be a good talent scount because you will always need a team to work with you, which means to identify a talent without knowing him too well. And this will allow you to build an organisation.
