例题:Nowadays, some university offer graduate students skills that assist to find employment, but some people believe the main function of university should be to access knowledge for its sake. What is your opinion?
As university education is the last stage before the starting of career, many people believe that it prepares students for employment only, but the fact is that it serves a lot many purposes. In this essay I shall discuss the various functions of a university.
Universities provide specialised education in fields such as medical, engineering, commerce etc. They provide library facilities, which support the curriculum. They provide laboratory facilities for science and technology related subjects. They send students to factories and industries so that they get practical experience. This job-oriented training helps them to understand the working conditions and also gives them an idea about competition in the market. They also create job opportunities for the students by arranging campus interviews.
On the other hand, universities also perform other functions which help the students in their personal life. They organise co-curricular activities such as cultural programmes, sports, debates, fairs etc. They gain many qualities such as self-confidence and positive attitude, which help them in their future life. Moreover, some people just go to university for gaining knowledge just out of interest for the subject. For example, a doctor may want to learn French language just for interest in the language.
Furthermore, a university is a place to know more about the world because there are students from across the globe in a university. For many, who may never travel abroad, this may be a chance of a lifetime for them to broaden their horizons and know more about the different cultures of the world. For example, in LPU ( Lovely Professional University), there are 200 students from Malaysia, Korea and other parts of the world.
To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that, universities do not simply prepare a person for employment, but also have many other functions.

例题:Many scientists believe that now we can study the behavior of a three-year-old child to see whether they will grow up to be criminals. To what extent do you think the human nature produces crimes? And how can we prevent children from growing up to be criminals?
思路:
Does a child’s performance at the age of 3 decide whether he or she would be a criminal in the future? Personally, I partially agree that gene defects in some cases indeed cause some illegal actions, while it is unwise to attribute all crimes to the gene problem, and my reasons will be explored as below.
Admittedly, to the extent of Geneticism, this assertion is reasonable, because some of human behaviors, attitudes and characteristics are determined by DNA, and there is always homeotypical continuity from inappropriate behaviors in childhood to criminality in adulthood. For example, symptoms of gene-based psychological abnormality, which stems from the imbalanced secretion of hormones in brain, can be reflected in the very young age as inattention, restlessness, apathy, the lack of guilt about wrongdoings, and unkindness to other children. In adulthood, there is a high possibility that these morbid emotional traits evolve into anti-social minds--specifically, disregarding of rights of others or rules of society, irresponsibility, aggressive personalities and misperceptions about the right and wrong.
However, I strongly believe this assertion is problematic, for the reason that it completely underestimates more fundamental influences of other aspects on children after their birth. Firstly, parents always play a key role in children’s formative education that directly shapes behaviors, minds and values of them. For example, poor parenting skills in daily life, such as violence and corporal punishment, tend to make personalities of children aggressive and rude, even irritable, which might turn into dangerous behaviors and anti-social minds in adulthood.
Besides, violent contents on the internet, TV programs and video games are also responsible for juvenile crimes. It is because youngsters, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, too much violence in the virtual world could twist the social values of young viewers. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to crimes.
In conclusion, there are more factors that might result in delinquencies of the youth than genes, and the impacts from parents and media on children’s growth are bigger than that from DNA.

例题:People living in big cities face problems; government should encourage people to move to small towns. What are these problems? Do you agree government should encourage people to move to small towns?
People who want a modern life style, with a focus on luxury, convenience and accessibility, will choose city life. Advanced technological appliances to better job opportunities, better wages and extensive product ranges are some of the attractions of city life. But nowadays people living in big cities face a variety of issues. Some citizens advocate that government should encourage people to move to small towns as population density in cities increases, it leads to overcrowding.
In 2007 the United Nations estimated the total world population at 6.6 billion were living in urban areas. Roughly 80 percent of the U.S. population, for example, lives in urban areas. This happens because the demand for housing is more than the supply of housing.
Moreover, increased movement of people from rural to urban areas puts a strain on the city's infrastracfture. As more people join the commuter rush each day, roads and freeways become crowded. New construction adds to the chaos as it
struggles to keep up with demand. Ambulances and emergency vehicles sometimes find it hard to navigate the bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hours. This can put seriously ill or injured people's lives at risk.
However, from the point of my view, cities have many benefits over villages for them. As a matter of fact, children growing up in small towns do not have as much access to education as children in cities. What's more, villages may not have enough children to create a school that goes all the way through high school. Cities on the other hand have multiple forms of education such as colleges and universities. Libraries and museums are available in cities. Meanwhile, entertainment is readily accessible in cities in the form of movie theaters, amusement parks and restaurants. More importantly, living in the city provides people with thousands of career choices.
Encouraging people to move to small towns is totally an unwise suggestion. Governments can further encourage the trend by funding education projects and ways to inform the populace about the costs of raising more than a set number of children. By using the carrot instead of the stick, people will be more inclined to choose to have smaller families.

例题:Many people use their own cars rather than public transport, so it is up to the government to encourage people to use buses and trains instead. Do you agree or disagree to this statement?
The municipality ought to make it not only easier for people to use public transport but also make it more difficult for them to use their own cars. The answer is an up-to-date mass-transit system, which is expected to 'kill two birds with one stone,' so to speak. If everything goes well, the two big problems facing cities today-air pollution and traffic congestion--would be reduced to large extent.
There are several benefits to encouraging drivers to adopt other transport options. That is why, in cities with frequent traffic congestion, individuals often choose subway, light rail or bus service. These options can lower the traffic frequency on the roads, and relieve people of the stress associated with driving in heavy traffic. But, first thing first, it is up to the government to improve such infrastructure facilities as contributing to a rapid transport framework. Without an efficient system, it is hardly possible for drivers to consider leaving their cars in the garages. The logic is obvious: people need to move around rapidly, so if public transport proves to be time-saving, they would refrain from using their cars.
A modern mass-transit network has less of an environmental impact, apart from the advantage of reducing traffic congestion. The excessive use of private cars is often a health problem due to air pollution. Usually, that part of the city which has the worst congested traffic has the most notorious air pollution. This being the case, a huge sum of money should be spent on mass transit projects on a long-term basis. Before that, the government should take measures to control traffic flow by limiting non-essential driving in cities, if only for better air quality. As to how air pollution may cause climate to change because of the greenhouse effects is another story.
All in all, it is imperative for the government to solve the dual-problem of traffic congestion and air pollution through the single strategy of creating a mass transit system that can meet people's aspirations. Therefore, the question is not why but how. The government has the option; so do car owners.

例题:Some people say that government should increase the tax on petrol inorder to decrease traffic and pollution. Do you agree with this opinion? Please explain the benefits and drawbacks.
The government taxes a wide variety of economic activities but certain activities or products sometimes face additional taxes, such as petrol. Historically, the price of fuel has fluctuated dramatically. However, the causes of high fuel and energy prices loomed over the 2008 presidential race in the U.S., and will always foster debate among the whole world. Fundamentally, government increases the tax on fuel would cause largely by the supply and demand for crude oil, which is the benchmark for all energy prices.
On one hand, the exhaust and other emissions produced by vehicles are inevitably harmful to both the environment and personal health. When the tax of petrol rises, the price of transporting and goods rises as well. One result is that the prices of those imported goods that must travel long distances will increase, people may choose to travel shorter distances in order to save on fuel costs which may help reduce the amount of pollution.
On the other hand, the price of food often correlates strongly with the price of fuel. This is because much of the expense of producing food is derived from the purchase of fuel that is used in the food's production. For example, tractors used in the growing of corn use gasoline, as do the trucks that drive that corn to market. When fuel tax rises, food prices often do as well. A case in point, during the spike in oil prices during the summer of 2008, the price of food also climed dramatically.
In addition to economic effects, shifts in fuel tax can dramatically affect a country's politics. Rises in fuel tax can translate into dissatisfaction with the local government, occasionally leading to a change in leaders or elected representatives. Countries facing high prices due to a lack of supply may adopt trade agreements with other nations. Reliance on a petroleum-producing nation will often lead the importing nation to defer to the exporting nation in certain areas, so as to maintain good relations.
In my perspective, in order to deter the soaring traffic and pollution problem, government should expand the financial support in public transportation: establish more infrastructures on subways, public buses. And in the long term, we must find alternative sources of power, such as solar power, wind power and electric power. Only when multiple means are used can we effectively solve this problem.
