12月7日，美国《时代周刊》揭晓了“2016年度人物”（Person of the Year），候任美国总统的唐纳德·特朗普成功当选。
《时代周刊》对其的评语是：

在《时代周刊》这期年度人物特刊封面中，特朗普坐在一把低调奢华的靠背椅上，转身凝视镜头，头顶时代二字，仿佛一切已大局在握。
《时代周刊》给出了如下一段深奥的评选理由，引人思考：
For reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it, for empowering a hidden electorate by mainstreaming its furies and live-streaming its fears, and for framing tomorrow’s political culture by demolishing yesterday’s, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2016 Person of the Year.

For those who believe this is all for the better, Trump’s victory represents a long-overdue rebuke to an entrenched and arrogant governing class;

for those who see it as for the worse, the destruction extends to cherished norms of civility and discourse, a politics poisoned by vile streams of racism, sexism, nativism.

对于当选《时代》年度人物，特朗普本人表示十分荣幸：
“To be on the cover of Time as Person of the Year is a tremendous honor. ”
登上《时代周刊》年度人物的封面对我是莫大的荣幸。
但对于“分裂国总统”这一称号，他表示不能接受：
Well I think putting divided is snarky. But again it’s divided, I'm not president yet. I didn't do anything to divide.
不过我觉得分裂的说法有点尖刻。不过确实美国是分裂的，但我还不是总统呢，我又没做任何分裂国家的事。
“I mean there’s a lot of division, and we’re going to put it back together and we’re going to have a country that’s very well healed.”

这已经不是特朗普第一次登上《时代》封面了。他第一次上封面是1989年。
光是2016年，特朗普就上了好几次封面，至于文章内容，正面负面都有。
今年1月的一期封面报道就深得特朗普心。他在推特上说：
“Time Magazine has me on the cover this week. David Von Drehle has written one of the best stories I have ever had.”
《时代周刊》这周让我上封面了。David Von Drehle写的这篇报道是关于我的最佳报道。
但是今年8月和10月的两期封面都没有那么好看了。
In August, Time featured an illustrated likeness of him melting down, as rumors swirled that his campaign was faltering; two months later, it revisited that image to show him in full meltdown.

2013年，他评价说《时代周刊》选出的100名最具影响力人物是个“玩笑”（joke），并且预祝《时代周刊》早日倒闭。
《时代周刊》的100名最具影响力人物名单完全是个笑话，杂志搏眼球而已，《时代周刊》这是要亡啊，和《新闻周刊》一样。太糟糕的名单。
不过这一次，被选上年度人物了，他的态度又180度大转弯。他在7日接受NBC采访时说：
"It means a lot, especially me growing up reading Time Magazine, and you know, it's a very important magazine, and I've been lucky enough to be on the cover many times this year."
