BMW宝马阶梯剧场地处墨尔本市中心的亚拉河畔。特有两种灵活的舞台功能:街道模式和表演模式。在街道模式中，由其北边咖啡馆营造出全封闭玻璃构建的街道感觉。而在表演模式中，采用一扇大而可折叠的声学门将剧场与北中庭完全隔离。从而构成了能营造高质量的室内音乐、铜管乐队、爵士音乐、演讲和合唱团表演活动。

BMW Amphitheater is located on the Yarra River in the heart of Melbourne. There are two flexible stage functions: street mode and performance mode. In the street mode, the cafe on the north side creates a street feeling constructed by fully enclosed glass. In the performance mode, a large and foldable acoustic door is used to completely isolate the theater from the north atrium. This constitutes a highquality chamber music, brass band, jazz music, speech and choir performance activities.

BMW宝马阶梯剧场独特的室内公众空间，与开放的广场构成了互补关系。它有两个独特构件（南部中庭和北部中庭），由连接广场、剧场与美术馆的穿越式纵横隔开。作为持续的公众空间，体现了广场连接城市与雅拉河的本意。

BMW Amphitheater is a unique covered public space which provides a complement to the open plaza. it is formed into two distinct elements, (designated north and south) by the lateral insertion of the x-bar which acts to link the plaza to the NGV galleries, and the city beyond. as a continuously open, publicly accessible space, the atrium is emblematic of federation square's intended connection of city and river.

980块玻璃瓷砖、2.1公里钢管构建南中庭（即宝马剧场）；

整个中庭结构，共计使用了3,880公吨的钢材料。

The building facade system, utilising new understandings of spatial and surface geometries.Nine different shapes of glass tiles were used in the Atrium walls.The north Atrium contains up to 1,300 glass tiles and 3.6 km of stell tubing was used to build it.The south Atrium (The BMW Edge) contains up to 980 glass tiles and 2.1 km of steel tubing.2,740 star connectors hold the steel together at joins.In all, about 3,880 tonnes of steel were used in the construction.

其宽阔空间可以包含现场音乐表演，马戏节目，合唱及演讲等室内活动；BMW剧场已成为市场营销，都市节目，时尚秀，展示，晚宴等活动的常规场所。

The deep space of this supporting frame acts as a thermal chimney, evacuating the build-up of hot air. the atrium space itself is conditioned by a passive-cooling system, using a low-level air displacement system to keep the comfort zone of the atrium up to 12C cooler than the outside temperature in summer.
