Retell Lecture精选:Bioprinting(生物打印)
PTE关键词:bio-printing, dimension, pharmaceutical
Tissuing engineering, what is it? It’s an emerging field, interdisciplinary field that combines engineering and life sciences to create functional biological structures that can restore and improve tissue function. Examples include Blatter’s, trachea blood vessels and if you look at it, printing as a technology has also gone through the revolution and well it’s been around for hundreds of years. In the last couple of decades, it’s been a new dimension. We can now print layer by layer in materials ranging from plastic to metal, to concrete, to chocolate, from the smallest scales to the largest. If you take 3D printing and we combine it with biology, we have bio-printing where the building blocks our cell aggregates where we called bio-ling particles that are composed of thousands of cells that can fuse together into different shapes, these geometries can include multi-layered sheets, such as skin, branching tubes for vasculature and the sophistication of this manufacturing technology improves daily to include different cell types and different shapes. And now why is it important, the pharmaceutical industry at the moment is in a moment of crisis. It spends more money each year on R&D, but has fewer drugs to show for it. It takes more than a decade, more than a billion of dollars to develop a new drug and the cost of a failure can be measured in hundreds of millions of dollars.
Retell Lecture精选:Mail Delivery(邮件投递)
PTE关键词:exhibit, prominent, ingenious

Let’s proceed to the main exhibit hall and look at some of the actual vehiclesthat have played a prominent role in speeding up mail delivery.Consider how long it used to take to send a letter across a relatively short distance. Back in the 1600’s it took two weeks on horseback to get a letter from Boston to New York, a distance of about 260 miles. Crossing a river was also a challenge. Ferry service was so irregular that a carrier would sometimes wait hours just to catch a ferry. For journeys inland, there was always the stagecoach, but the ride was by no means comfortable because it had to be shared with other passengers. The post office was pretty ingenious about some routes. In the nineteenth century, in the Southwestern desert, for instance, camels were brought in to help get the mail through. In Alaska, reindeer were used. This practice was discontinued because of the disagreeable temperament of these animals. We’ll stop here a minute so that you can enter this replica of a railway mail car. It was during the Age of the Iron Horse that delivery really started to pick up, in fact, the United States transported most bulk mail by train for nearly 100 years. The first airmail service didn’t start until 1918. Please take a few moments to look around. I hope you’ll enjoy your tour. And as you continue on your own, may I suggest you visit our impressive philatelic collection. Not only can you look at some of the more unusual stamps issues, but there is an interesting exhibit on how stamps are made.

PTE Writing精选:Good zoos serve the welfare of animals. They generatein people a commitment to the value of nature and the environment.

PTE关键词:commitment, emphasis, conservation

Good zoos serve the welfare of animals. They generate in people a commitment to the value of nature and the environment. In the past, there have been questionable zoos employing cruel practices. These zoos, of course, need to be reformed. Good zoos where animals are cared for properly, well fed and well looked after, and where animals are kept in spacious surroundings, are becoming the norm and should be encouraged. Zoos increasingly become places where people are encouraged to connect with animals. The long-term future of zoos depends on people making a commitment to animals’ long-term well-being.The emphasis has shifted from zoos being seen as places of entertainment towards zoos being seen as places of education. Most modern zoos put their main emphasis on conservation and education—visitors come to zoos to learn about nature, the environment, endangered species, and conservation. Far from encouraging bad treatment of animals, zoos provide a direct experience of other species that will increase ecological awareness.Programs in zoos to breed endangered animals in captivity are lauded as huge success stories. Animals such as tigers, pandas and gorillas have a chance of surviving as a species because of these programs. Providing that animals are treated well, there is no reason why conservation, education, and cruelty-free entertainment should not all be combined in a zoo. Animals can and should be studied in the wild, but they can also be studied more closely, more rigorously, andover a more sustained period of time in captivity. For endangered animals to be given a better chance to survive, zoos need to be supported.
