惊闻陈之斌先生意外去世的噩耗，我深感痛心。

我谨代表维州全体居民，向陈先生的家人 - 妻子Pauline，女儿Jacinta和儿子Adrian - 以及所有爱戴陈先生的人们，表示由衷的慰问。

陈先生是多元文化的坚实拥护者，对我们维州和全澳大利亚都做出了杰出的贡献，也备受多元文化社区以及各政治党派领袖们的敬重。

陈先生于1958年来澳大利亚求学，于1971年成爲本国公民，经曆了白澳政策日渐式微的时期。他的定居经曆和他对新家园的热爱使其致力成爲了墨尔本的华人社区领袖，而后更是于1998年参与到联邦政治中。

陈先生坚持信念且从不畏缩，通过成爲首个在联邦参议院获得席位的澳大利亚华人亲身爲广大亚洲移民铺垫了前进的道路。在国家迫切需要社区呼声的时候，他也用自己联邦议员身份的平台对联邦多元文化事务政策和移民政策産生了积极的影响。

自2005年从结束职业政治生涯后，陈先生投入大量的时间爲多元文化社区的福祉奔走呼吁，而他致力将澳大利亚华人社区的发展曆程写入国家曆史的努力也是衆所周知的。

而后，陈先生于2015年至2019年担任了维州多元文化委员会委员，并于2018年被任命爲澳大利亚多元文化委员会委员。

陈先生将因他对多元文化所作出的杰出贡献而被人们所铭记，他留下的精神财富也将在未来漫长的日子里继续指导著各个社区和各级政府。

MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER

I was deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Tsebin ‘Bin’ Tchen.

On behalf of every Victorian, I send my heartfelt condolences to Mr Tchen’s family – his wife Pauline, daughter Jacinta and son Adrian – and to all those who loved him.

A true champion of diversity, Mr Tchen made a remarkable contribution to our state and our nation, and was highly respected among multicultural communities as well as leaders from all sides of politics.

Arriving as a student in 1958, he became a citizen in 1971 following the slow dismantling of the White Australia Policy. Mr Tchen’s lived experience as a migrant and his love for his new home saw him become a leader within Melbourne’s Chinese community before progressing into federal politics in 1998.

Never shy of standing up for what he believed in, he paved the way for other Asian migrants as the first Chinese-Australian to secure a seat in the Senate.He used this platform to influence multicultural affairs and immigration policies at a time when such a voice was greatly needed.

After stepping down from political life in 2005, Mr Tchen devoted his time to advocating for our multicultural communities and was quite rightlyoutspoken in his desire to see the inclusion of Chinese-Australian experiences in our nation’s history.

Most recently, he was a Commissioner with the Victorian Multicultural Commission from 2015 to 2019 and was appointed to the Australian Multicultural Council in 2018.

Mr Tchen will be remembered for his outstanding commitment to multiculturalism and leaves a legacy that will continue to guide communities and governments long into the future.
