我们经常在买家电的时候，会听到Local讲White goods，Brown goods，有的同学就问了，White goods到底怎么翻译啊？白家电？如果这样翻译的话，听你翻译的人还是一头雾水，那该如何翻译呢？

让我们来查一查White goods的英文含义：

White goods:

Heavy consumer durables such as airconditioners, refrigerators, stoves, etc., which used to be painted only in white enamel finish. Despite their availability in varied colors now, they are still called white goods. 

原来White goods指的是大件的家电，因为以前这类家电都会涂成白色。虽然现在各种颜色都有，但是语言习惯留下，仍然称他们White goods. 所以，翻译成大家电。

与之相对的Brown goods翻译成小家电就好了~

Brown Goods:

Relatively light electronic consumer durables such as TVs, radios, digital media players, and computers, as distinct from heavy consumer durables such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, which are called white goods.
