新州（NSW）的驾照分4个阶段：
L（初学者，刚刚考过交规的）---红P---绿P---正式驾照（Full）
每个阶段都有不同的持证时间要求，升级也需要参加不同的考试。从红P到FULL的最短时间为3年。
每次的收费：
| Handbooks (including Road Users' Handbook, Heavy Vehicle Drivers' Handbook, Motorcycle Riders' Handbook, Hazard Perception Handbook, and Driver Qualification Handbook). | $11 (inc. GST) |
| Driver Knowledge Test | $39 each attempt |
| Driving Test | $48 (inc. GST) each attempt |
| Riding Test | $48 (inc. GST) each attempt |
| Hazard Perception Test | $39 each attempt |
| Driver Qualification Test | $39 each attempt |
| Application for Exemption - Peer passenger, one passenger or prohibited vehicle condition | $27 |
| --- Replacement Exemption Letter (lost/stolen/destroyed) | $12 |

考好交规后，可以去驾校请教练教如何开车。具体费用不详。如何在澳洲的新洲考驾照只知道按小时计算。需要学多久？根据学生的情况，也要看教练。
对于持有他国驾照的人来澳洲如何开车，交规上都有不同的交待，主要根据签证的不同类型来决定。
