APPLIED MACHINE LEARNING INTERN

As part of our engineering team, you will work at a scale where the challenges start to get seriously interesting. Our global engineering team is widely dispersed over the world, with people across nearly every continent. You will get a chance to do cool things with a diverse bunch of people while working in the Melbourne office that is home to Zendesk’s first machine learning (ML) research team.

The Data Science Team, and together with Data Engineering we have built Satisfaction Prediction, Answer Bot and Content Cues — products that use Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help our customers work more efficiently.

What you get to do every day:

• You will learn to research, develop, and productionise Machine and Deep Learning models. As a member of the Data Science team, in addition to frequenting Melbourne’s finest purveyors of coffee, ramen, and bulgogi, you may find yourself:

• Brainstorming a new neural network architecture (Let’s call it Dory)

• Using AWS Athena to find data for Dory

• Building and training Dory in TensorFlow

• Evaluating Dory’s performance on real-world data

• Working closely with our ML & Data Engineers to deploy production-grade Python and deliver Dory to our web-scale infrastructure

What you'll bring to the role:

• You’ve been neck deep in a PhD or Masters and are looking for a chance to experience an industry role before finishing (or accepting that Post-Doc). Your background is in a quantitative discipline (e.g. machine learning, statistics, bio/eco/etc-informatics, econometrics, etc). While experience in deep learning and natural language processing would be beneficial, your: 

• dedication to continuous learning

• collaborative work attitude; and

• strong communication skills 

• will be critical to your success as an intern. You should also be familiar with at least one programming language, such as Python or R.

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING INTERN

Zendesk is looking for a number of Software Engineering Interns to contribute in a wide variety of areas to our market-leading customer service platform. Our product helps over 125,000 companies globally have more meaningful interactions and relationships with their customers.

Our Melbourne Engineering teams are growing across the board and starting out as an intern puts you in a good position to end up a permanent employee. We’re looking for 10 interns to join us for 6 months in a full-time capacity.

As a Zendesk Engineering Intern, you’ll contribute to our highly successful products and work on new and exciting SaaS projects. You’ll work in a fast-paced, Agile environment where we focus on delivering value to our customers by shipping quality code and gathering feedback. We champion best practice software development where you’ll have complete involvement in all aspects of the development lifecycle from feature discovery and design through to answering support tickets for our customers. We’re passionate about performance, code quality, and solving challenging, large-scale problems.  

You'll develop your skills through pair programming, lunch and learns, and lab days to experiment with new ideas. You'll be part of a talented team who are actively involved in the tech community as we often host and present at tech meetups.
