Good Evening
If you’ve been keeping abreast of the news headlines lately, you may have seen Mackay’s regional economy is set for a significant boost, with North Queensland Airports Group (NQA) unveiling plans to expand the Mackay Airport.
The $900 million expansion will see the airport turned into one of Queensland’s most prominent transport, freight and logistics hubs, with passenger numbers set to soar far beyond the one million passengers that currently pass through the facility each year. This will have a significant impact on the tourism industry, and once the plans are given formal approval, the local construction sector is also sure to be celebrating.
It is expected the works within the Mackay Airport Terminal Business Zone and the Commercial and Aviation Enterprise areas will contribute approximately $721 million towards Mackay’s gross regional product over the coming years. More than 5,000 full-time and ‘full-time equivalent’ jobs have also been forecast as a result of the new plans, and according to NQA, it is likely the region’s first international flights to Auckland, New Zealand will be in operation as early as 2019.
The announcement is great news for Mackay investors as the plans ensure more and more people will continue to enter the region. This will be of benefit to Rivermarque investors who are looking to rent their apartments out as either long-term or short-term rentals.
The airport expansion is also likely to encourage further diversification of the Mackay economy, minimising the region’s reliance on mining and strengthening its economic base even further in the coming years. Construction update
Rivermarque is fast approaching completion, with only a few months left of construction.. At this stage, settlement is set to take place in August, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our first occupants to the building.
Some of the major construction milestones that have been achieved recently include:
Builder RCQ Construction has almost completely removed the scaffolding.
Much of the external rendering has been completed.
Internal walls and sheeting has been completed.
Lifts have been installed.
Tiling has commenced.

As you can see, Rivermarque offers sweeping views of the Pioneer River and aspects over the bustling and vibrant Mackay city centre.
