Senior Accountant


Position   Title:Senior Accountant

Department:Business Advisory

Reports   to:Manager – Business Advisory

Location:Melbourne Office


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

General Overview of Position

In this role you are required to perform client related tasks under direct supervision of a Manager or Director.


1.     Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for Trusts, Companies, Individuals, and Partnerships

  • Able to interpret financial results

  • Preparation of Business Activity Statements

  • Excellent technical ability with Division 7A, tax planning, PSI, Trust issues, GST and CGT.

  • Excellent research skills and able to accurately interpret taxation and other relevant legislation and rulings

  • Maintain current and accurate work paper files for all jobs

  • Communicate with third parties such as the ATO to assist in completing a client jobs

  • Experienced with MYOB, Quickbooks, Reckon and all Cloud Accounting Package, especially Xero

  • Experienced with Microsoft Excel and Word, bonus if familiar with APS and XPA

  • Able to support senior staff and the Manager

  • Able to delegate work to junior staff and supervise / support junior staff in their roles


2.     Client Duties

Under direction applies principles of accounting and taxation to:

  • Client related compliance services including, but not limited to, preparation of financial statements;

  • Preparation of taxation schedules for all relevant taxes, etc;

  • Other general business and consulting services for clients; and

  • Research


Management and administration of matters relating to your client list.

  • Meeting and exceeding your clients’ expectations;

  • Anticipate client needs and search for ways to improve client service;

  • Manager to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of outcomes for clients;

  • To maintain vigilance in respect to seeking client approval on scope and costs before commencing a brief and to actively communicate with the Client Manager should you find that costs are approaching the budget for the client-brief; and

  • Strict adherence to the firm’s client confidentiality policies.


Report to Director immediately in relation to any client complaints


3.     General Duties

  • Effective prioritisation of client work, above overhead work, wherever possible, to ensure workflow efficiency, client satisfaction and adherence to deadlines;

  • To utilise and apply Nexia work-papers and other Nexia standards in the fulfilment of your duties and responsibilities;

  • To work with your manager to ensure own professional development;

  • Maintain positive work environment for you and the firm; and

  • Your Budgeted Productivity and Recovery calculations.


4.     Personal Qualities

  • Have a minimum 3-6 years’ work experience within an Australian public practice

  • Must be able to hit the ground running

  • Positive, proactive and innovative

  • Good attention to detail

  • Completed CA or CPA

  • Good time management and organisational skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written & spoken

  • Demonstrate a willingness to be client facing, in order to provide support to management.

  • Enjoy and have a desire for client interaction, able to anticipate client concerns and proactively seek to manage client needs by going the extra mile.

  • Be a good cultural fit with our organisation.

  • Discuss job progression with Manager / Director

  • Identify any difficulties with jobs or clients and consult with Manager / Director for Resolution

  • Participate in team activities and meetings

  • Support other team members

  • Happy to mentor and coach Graduate/junior staff.


5.     Employment Requirements

  • Meet your monthly and ongoing productivity & recovery targets;

  • Management of WIP balances, within your client list, and ensure that fees are raised as and when required; and

  • Achievement of day-to-day tasks, completed with utmost efficiency and accuracy.

  • Effective prioritisation of work to ensure workflow efficiency, client satisfaction and adherence to deadlines.

  • Work with your Manager to ensure your own professional development.

  • Maintain a positive work environment.

  • Succeed in achieving performance measures and competency standards.
