An opportunity exists for a self-motivated and experienced professional to join the Finance team at Launceston Airport in the role of Financial Accountant reporting to the Manager – Finance & Property.

Job Purpose:

The position of Financial Accountant is primarily accountable for ensuring the delivery of quality month-end transactional accounting and reporting.

The Financial Accountant communicates with business units across Australia Pacific Airport Corporation (APAC) to coordinate information, investigate data and assumptions in order to understand the reasons for variances resolve issues and provide accurate and insightful monthly commentary for reporting purposes.

Job Scope:

Transactional Accounting & Month-end

• Prepare balance sheet and reconciliations to audit quality level

• Prepare accurate monthly journals

• Collate and ensure the accuracy of monthly costing accruals, testing assumptions behind provisions with business owners to drive accurate reporting

• Ensure transactions are processed in line with Australian accounting standards

• Account for recharges including security, utilities and outgoings

• Maintain the fixed asset register including additions and depreciation

• Maintain the credit card processing system and oversee the timely reconciliation of credit cards

Financials and Statutory Reporting

• Assist audit teams

• Assist with the preparation of the monthly board pack

• Assist in the documentation of half yearly and year-end stewardship process

• Assist with the preparation of the APAC group's statutory financial statements, including obligations with ACCC, ASIC, and lending agreements

• Assist with the maintenance of the chart of accounts

Operational Effectiveness

• Support and assist business units with any queries regarding accounting systems

• Ensure the maintenance and integrity of accounting systems

• Assist with the development of instructional manuals communicate and train relevant managers and team members

• Provide financial advice by considering operational issues, applying financial principles and practices and developing recommendations for review

• Prepare monthly and quarterly statements

• Ensure all required general ledger and journal entries are made and financial reporting deadlines are met including appropriate P&L analysis

• Maintain financial calendar and ensure milestones are met

• Support the Finance team in resolving accounting discrepancies and irregularities

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce or similar

• CPA or CA qualification preferred

• Thorough knowledge of standard accounting procedures and principles

• Strong analytical skills with well-developed methods for error checking

• Experience using MS Office with advanced Excel

• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with experience managing multiple stakeholders
