身在国外,怎么能不学习一点俚语新知识呢。小A给大家整理了一些跟食物有关的俚语,供大家交流学习。

疯掉了

第一种情况是指并不是什么坏事的兴奋之情。

They really went bananas at the party.
(他们在派对中确实玩疯了。)

第二种情况是指并不是什么好事的激动之情。
 
The parents went bananas when they knew that their teenage daughter was in the family way.
(得知正当年少的女儿怀了孕,爸妈疯掉了。)

have bigger fish to fry
另有要事

I counldn't attend the meeting, I had bigger fish to fry.
(我不能参会,我还有要紧事。)

To be honest, it’s too trivial and I have bigger fish to fry. 

(老实说,这事儿太琐碎了,我有更重要的事要做。)

eat like a horse
食量大如马
My husband eats like a horse.
(我丈夫特能吃。)
My girlfriendA is so tiny, but she eats like a horse.
(我女朋友小A身材娇小,但是她的食量可是惊人啊。)

如履薄冰(小心翼翼地)
I‘ve been walking on eggshells around my boyfriend.
(在男友身边我如履薄冰。)

A: It's so difficult being around A now that her
boyfriend has dumped her.
B: You're right. It's like walking on eggs. Anything that
you say to her can send her into tears.
(A: 小A的男友把她甩了,因此跟小A相处挺难的。)
(B: 你的话有道理。现在的状况得小心翼翼处理。你不管对她说什么话都会把她惹哭。)

难对付的人/问题
A is a hard nut to crack.
(小A真不好对付。)

The final exam was a hard nut to crack. 
(毕业考试不好对付。)

Instead of getting angry or sad, you might just accept it and say that's the way the cookie crumbles.
(事已至此,与其生气难过,你还不如接受现实。)
