Business Development Manager-Education

Wine Australia China


Wine Australia invests in and directs research, development and extension, marketing, disseminating knowledge, encouraging adoption and protecting the reputation of Australian wine. We work closely with our representative organisations, wine sector bodies and our partners to support the long-term success of the Australian grape and wine community.

 

Wine Australia’s objectives to increase the perception of and demand for Australian wine among the consumer and wine trade in China. Education is being leveraged as amarketing channel and the recently developed Australian Wine Discovered education program is a comprehensive, free education program providing information, tools and resources to discover and share Australian wine. The program is available in English and is being translated into Chinese.

 

Reporting to the Regional General Manager – North Asia, the Business Development Manager-Education will be responsible for conceiving, developing, delivering and evaluating marketing initiatives for consumer, trade, influencers and other key stakeholders and increasing the dissemination, uptake and use of Australian Wine Discovered (AWD) program to achieve strategic outcomes. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning

  • Working with the RGM, and global teams, develop an annual plan for Wine Australia education and the promotion of Australian Wine Discovered (AWD) in Greater China.

  • Provide advice and recommendations to the GM, Marketing, RGM China and Global Brand and Operations Managers which will continue to evolve AWD and education activities in China and North Asia.

  • Use market insights to develop other sound business concepts and ideas which are executable.


Educator Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Manage and develop Wine Australia educators to ensure they are informed, supported and are leveraged to achieve exceptional education outcomes.

  • Regularly review, evaluate and assess Wine Australia educators to ensure they continue to satisfactorily advocate Australian wine.


Industry Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Seek to understand in market stakeholder strategies to leverage education opportunities and support their marketing plans.

  • Work with trade stakeholders (distributors, retailers, on and off premise etc) to provide them with AWD education modules and materials to directly support their marketing efforts and training programs.

  • Develop proposals to secure stakeholder support for, and investment in, Wine Australia marketing campaigns and events.

  • Provide information to key stakeholders about Wine Australia education and marketing programs ensuring open communication channels and knowledge sharing across stakeholder groups.


Marketing Activations

  • Manage the delivery of the education content at Wine Australia events - including trade show activations, master classes, tastings and seminars.

  • Work closely with Marketing Project Managers to determine and recommend opportunities to promote and use AWD in major campaigns and consumer and trade events. 

  • Identify and present opportunities for Wine Australia education and content to reach consumer audiences.

Communication, Social & Digital

  • Work closely with the Global Communications Manager and PR/Communication Manager, North Asia to contribute to their annual plan.

  • Work closely with the PR/Communication Manager, North Asia to identify and develop relationships with key influencers and media.

  • Continually update the PR/Communication Manager, North Asia with stakeholder insights so they can support and align with business development activities in market (Wine Australia and/or stakeholder owned). 

  • Provide clear briefs to project managers, communications, social, digital and design teams. 

  • Continually seek out opportunities to communicate the Australian Wine brand messaging pillars. 

  • Contribute to in-market stakeholder newsletters and other communications.

  • Foster a collaborative team spirit focused on service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Actively participate as a team member, contributing to marketing campaigns and projects in North Asia.

  • Promote teamwork and achievement of a common global purpose.

  • Other duties as directed by the Regional General Manager – North Asia.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Qualified at WSET level 3 or above, other equivalent levels of knowledge and experience will be considered.


Knowledgeand Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a senior commercial role within the wine & spirits industry and experience from within China will be a distinct advantage.

  • Extensive knowledge of the wine and spirits industry in China and how the market operates.

  • Recent commercially focused experience in a multinational corporation and/or working with a global brand.

  • Proven experience in a business or account management role with a track record in partnership management and development.

  • Planning, organizational, and analytical skills for business planning.

  • Fluent in English, with Chinese (Mandarin) as a mother language.

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written and presentation).

  • Worked with cross functional and/or global teams.

  • Project Management skills and the ability to work across multiple projects.

  • Understanding consumer trends and opportunities in the wine sector in China and/or other Asian markets.

  • Demonstrated proactive approach to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders especially those with imported premium brands.

  • Negotiation and persuasion skills.


Other

  • Desire to fully embrace and deeply understand the Australian wine industry.

  • Desire to use market insights and data to identify opportunities.
