In 2016, China was Australia’s second largest inbound market for visitor arrivals and the largest market for total expenditure and visitor nights. Visitors from China generated $9.2 billion in total expenditure in 2016. The Tourism 2020 Strategy estimates that China has the potential to be worth up to $13 billion in total expenditure by 2020.


To build Australia’s strong position in the market we’re looking for an inspiring individual to lead a dedicated team of marketing, PR and distribution experts.
 
In this role you will manage Tourism Australia’s (TA) operations in China, directing marketing and partnership programs as well as developing and maintaining stakeholder partnerships with airlines, State Tourism Organisations, distribution and media partners. This role is also an important contributor to our Global Leadership Team.

You will be responsible for delivering and achieving the following:


  • Developing annual operating plans, in conjunction with Regional Management

  • Working collaboratively with the Regional General Manager by providing local market insights to develop global strategic frameworks, and implementing these frameworks locally

  • Managing high-level industry relationships within the market

  • Developing, maintaining and managing strategic working relationships and activities with key stakeholders (internally and externally)

  • Managing country budget allocation

  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the planned and executed marketing programs against agreed key performance indicators and providing regular reports on program results and progress

  • Providing direction and advice for TA staff ensuring they meet business objectives

  • Providing advice to the local and Australian trade on issues pertaining to the market

  • Deliver consistent communications internally and externally of consumer marketing strategies, brand messages and campaign activities

  • Create an environment of innovation and continuous improvement of products and services in TA

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business or other related field/s

  • Previous experience in one of the following roles, Country Manager, GM or Marketing & Sales Director or related

  • Previous experience within a consumer centric business

  • Advanced Mandarin language ability

  • Working knowledge of the Australian Tourism Industry/Products/Markets

  • Experience working with cross cultural teams

  • Proven ability to develop successful relationships with internal and external partners

  • The ability to develop and drive impact with actionable insights to secure sustainable business performance

  • Excellent listening, negotiation, presentation, written and verbal communication skills
