Parramatta tops NSW most liveable suburb ranking
Parramatta in western Sydney has been named the most liveable suburb in New South Wales in a new report.
It came out top in a comparison of 20 suburbs which looked at infrastructure, public transport and access to employment.
Parramatta's public transport interchanges, its close vicinity to major roads and growing retail sector were stand-out features noted in the report by NSW's Urban Development Institute of Australia.
Parramatta was awarded 135 points out of a possible 170, ahead of Burwood, Pyrmont and Hurstville.
Brett Evans, who lives and works in the area, moved there two years ago for better access to services.
"It's vibrant," he said. "It's exciting to live here, without inconvenience of having to travel."

Parramatta is the second largest CBD in Sydney and the sixth largest in the country.
It also has the fastest growing night-time economy, driven by a growing restaurant and cafe scene.
Mr Evans moved to the area with his wife Jennifer two years ago from Carlingford to have better access to services.
The 54-year-old worked in Parramatta for 10 years before moving there.
"There are resources here, there's a whole range of restaurants and clubs," he said.
"It's vibrant here... It's relaxed and healthier."
"A good walk to work every day is terrific."
'The city of the western suburbs'
Parramatta's Lord Mayor John Chedid says the city is no longer seen as the "poor cousin" of Sydney City.
"I think the old story of Parramatta being out west, I think that's disappeared," he said.
"People see us now truly as a sustainable city, a city designed for the people."

The chairman of A-League side the Western Sydney Wanderers, Lyall Gorman, says Parramatta's growing sporting scene has also contributed to the team's emerging iconic brand.
"It's come to life from a lifestyle and entertainment point… and from a sporting point of view," he said.
"Once people come here they start to understand the Parramatta of 20 years ago is well and truly gone."
"The Parramatta 20 years into the future is a remarkably exciting place to be."
The Wanderers, which plays its home matches at Parramatta Stadium, currently has 17,000 members.
Those on the streets of Parramatta, whether old or young, also sing their city's praises.
"I like everything about Parramatta. I feel connected to this place. I don't feel left out or anything like that," said one.
"Parramatta has the shopping facilities, it has all the transportation you need, the atmosphere is great and the people are very nice," said another.
"You've got everything here. Why would you want to go to the city?"
