话题分析:观点:1个
主题:designing buildings
两个方面:Usage & appearance
When analyzing the importance of practical use and attractive appearance in design, we notice that there has been, in recent years, a growing body of opinion in favour of such usage taking a dominant role in building. However, I believe that designers need to take both the two into account and that whilst the roles of each other may be different; they are nevertheless equal in importance.
On the one hand, the most obvious reason for constructing a building usually involves the original purpose of building it. As each building has its own intended function, for example, a library is the place for reading and studying, to satisfy the original need of the owner is of paramount importance when evaluating it. While these functional building designs flourish in the modern world, it does not mean that the architects have gotten rid of the aesthetic aspect of building design.
When design a building, designers also need to take aesthetics in to account. Since the owner of building may not always be the user of the building, not only are the designers required to satisfy the owner, but the feeling of the users also is required to understand. In most cases, the success of a building means that the design of it satisfies the emotional, cognitive, and cultural needs of the people who use it.
However, as with all questions of functionality versus aesthetics, they are not mutually exclusive. Both practical usage and attractive appearance contribute to the success of a building design. Without the appearance, a building would be too unattractive to realize its function, and without considering the purpose and function, the design of the building would not last long simple depending on its appearance.
In conclusion, a compromise between the function and aesthetics must become necessary. Architects and designers are encouraged to create a balance between these two important elements.
