引申为使适应，使适合；改编，改写

adverse/averse

不利的/厌恶的

Adverse and averse are both turn-offs, but adverse is something harmful, and averse is a strong feeling of dislike.

而Averse是出于个人主观情感，表示厌恶

complement/compliment

补充/赞美

Complement means to complete something or to make something perfect.  Compliment, on the other hand, means giving praise, expressing admiration or giving congratulations.

Complement的词根是Complete，想象它是补充某物使其完整的意思

Compliment 的词根是Comply (顺从；答应) ，顺着某人的意思自然就是赞美啦

compose/comprise

构成/包含

Compose的基本意思有组成，构成，多用于被动结构词组 be composed of 由···组成

Comprise有两层意思: 当A（整体）comprise B（部分）时，译作包含，包括；

当A（部分）comprise B（整体）时，译作组成，构成。

注意没有be comprised of的结构！comprise = be composed of

conscious/conscience

意识/良心

Both words have to do with the mind, but it's more important to be conscious, or awake, than conscience, or aware of right and wrong.

这两个读音非常像，但意思还是有所差别

Conscious表示神志清醒的，有意识的，可以做形容词也可以做名词。

它的变形还有Subconscious潜意识，unconscious无意识的

Conscience 表示良心，善恶观念，只有名词

死亡/出生率

Fatality 的词根是fatal（致命的）的名词形式，表示死亡数；致命性

Fertility的词根是fertile（繁殖的）的名字形式，表示生育率；另外死亡率是mortality

与道德无关的/不道德的

Elusive来源于elude（逃避，躲避），表示难以捉摸的，但那个东西是存在的。

Illusive来源于illusion（幻觉），表示幻觉的，错觉的，说明那个东西根本不存在。
