With the appearance of human civilization, we human beings have developed a wide range of communication approaches to get a better understanding between each other. Among these methods, communicating with speaking and writing  are believed to play vital roles in both our daily and professional life.

Spoken communication performs essential functions informally. First of all, it provides people with a valuable opportunity to address a wide range of problems from physical conditions to financial ones. To be specific, a GP needs to talk to his patient, ask him to describe the unique pain he is suffering from in a specific part of the body, for example, the stomachache, and diagnose the condition correctly and quickly through listening to the responses given.  In order to make a late payment, the payer usually prefers calling the payee like an electricitycompany explaining the reasons to writing an email, as he can get instant feedback through the phone. Furthermore, spoken communication contributes to bringing people closer together. While engaging in an interpersonal conversation, listeners are more likely to have such natural feelings as liking,sympathy or trustful in the other conversation partner.  

On the other sides, we use written communication, usually in formal ways. For one thing, written communication has been continued to take a dominant position in education systems.  In order to show the results of learning, students, no matter they are at primary schools , secondary ones or universities, are all requested to write essays and to answer questions on their test paper by pens or in an online-test by computers. For another, business people in the contemporary world, tend to deal with commercial activities with written communication like writing a letter or sending an E-mail. The advantages of these communication methods are obvious: not only be they general achieved and recoded for later retrieval, but they also can be private after using a certain way of technological coding.  

To conclude, both spoken and writtencommunication are powerful. It is just a matter of picking up an appropriate way to communicate according to the demands.
