The Brand, Marketing and Recruitment (BMR) division of The University of Western Australia (UWA) provides organisational wide strategic marketing planning, marketing and digital communication and leadership of the development and implementation of recruitment plans and activities to attract domestic and international students to study at UWA.
The International Relationships (IR) team, is one of the three Future Students’ teams of BMR. The IR team provides international strategic student recruitment direction for the University and undertakes extensive student recruitment focused activities globally. The team works closely with the International Agent Management team, which is also one of the teams within Future Students.
Responsible for delivering a high quality and efficient service, onshore and offshore, the IR team’s goal is to recruit international students from agreed priority regions to study at UWA. The team is charged with driving growth in applications from international undergraduate, postgraduate, study abroad and higher degree by research students who meet UWA’s entry requirements, direct or via pathway, and in particular, attract students who have outstanding potential.
In addition, the team plays an important role in the University’s efforts to maximise conversion of offers to acceptances through its in-market activities including agent training, monitoring performance trends and providing ongoing support of conversion initiatives.

Your role
This Regional Manager position is located in Shanghai, China and is one in a team of four staff based in China. This team is managed by the Shanghai based Senior Regional Manager, who reports to the International Relationships Manager (North Asia), located at UWA’s Crawley campus. The primary focus of this position is to undertake recruitment focused activities, to promote UWA and Perth as an attractive and preferred study destination providing students with the qualifications, skills and experiences for excellent career outcomes. This position will have a particular focus on developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in China.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Regional Manager, China, the Regional Manager, Central China role is primarily to work to achieve UWA’s student recruitment goals and develop stronger awareness of the UWA brand in China.
With your manager and colleagues, you will develop and implement student recruitment strategies across China and represent UWA in a range of forums to build the University’s reputation and to attract eligible students to apply to study at UWA.
You will identify and recommend new business development opportunities and support, as appropriate, University staff visiting China.
Your key responsibility is to grow commencing enrolments at UWA. In order to do this, you will be tasked to:
Effectively represent the University in agreed student recruitment activities, including education agent and school exhibitions, providing written reports on completion;
Visit UWA official representatives, providing detailed training on UWA courses, admissions processes, entry requirements and act as a conduit between the agent and the relevant admissions and international agent management teams at UWA;
Make recommendations regarding the appointment of new agents and monitor performance of current agents;
Support visiting UWA staff, making accommodation and transportation arrangements, and accompanying staff where appropriate;
Provide ongoing relevant market intelligence on trends and changes in the China market;
Identify new business opportunities with government and ministry bodies offering scholarship/new articulation/partnership and study tour opportunities;
Maintain and develop effective professional relationships and collaborate with important partners and stakeholders, with a particular focus on developing and maintaining key relationships with secondary schools;
Undertake other tasks as directed.
Your specific work capabilities
(selection criteria)
A relevant degree from a recognised university;
Advanced English language communication skills and demonstrated effective presentation skills;
Evidence of effective interpersonal skills and the ability to form strong and valued professional relationships with a range of colleagues, clients and customers.
A thorough understanding of and successful experience in international student recruitment or in related service’s marketing;
Detailed knowledge of the Australian and Chinese education systems;
Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, email and PowerPoint;
Highly developed planning and organisational skills with a proven ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
The ability to work independently and also productively in a team.
Special Requirements

Availability to work weekends and after hours
Availability to undertake travel within the China region and at least once a year to UWA
