Professor Antoine Hermens
Associate Professor, UTS Business School
Professor Antoine Hermens has significant senior management experience in both academeand industry. As an academic researcher, his particular interests are strategic alliances and additive manufacturing / digital technologies. As aninternational visiting professor, Antoine presents courses and interacts withacademics and administrators in New York, Ottawa, Paris, Toulouse, Reims, HongKong and Shanghai consequently. He also has considerable understanding ofinternational policy and best practice in business education.
Antoine’scareer at UTS Business School demonstrates his commitment to innovation, focuson high quality education and outcomes. Antoine was awarded a UTS Teaching andLeaning citation.
Ethics and Finance Scandals
This talk will examine the reliance on accounting information and the typical financial shenanigans that every finance analysts should understand. We’ll cover recent finance scandals to identify the improper accounting and how it may or may not be able to be observed outside the company through publicly-reported financial information. We’ll look at some specific cases including Enron, Worldcom, options backdating and the Madoff Ponzi scheme.

Professor David Michayluk
Head of the Finance Discipline Group, UTS Business School
Professor Michayluk obtained his Ph.D. at Louisiana State University for his work onintraday price formation and equity bid-ask spread components. He has taught in 5 countries and also holds a CPA designation. He is the Director of the Financial Research Network and he cofoundedthe International Journal of Managerial Finance. He has consulted for a number of companies including banks, small businesses and securities exchanges and been a director and advisor for severalstartup businesses. He was appointed Head of the Finance Discipline Group inthe UTS Business School in February 2017.
