墨尔本CCL小词翻译课堂---“有资格”到底怎么翻译?

CCL翻译中经常涉及社会福利领域,而社会福利经常谈到领取资格的问题。很多墨尔本CCL备考同学分不清qualified,eligible 和entitled的区别,今天墨尔本文波CCL的小编就给大家总结下这几个词的区别:

A. Qualified: 做…有资格的,一般用于工作,比如:

1.having suitable knowledge, experience, or skills, especially for a particular job
well/suitably/highly qualified

Dawn is well qualified for her new role.
qualified to do sth

The guides are qualified to lead groups into the mountains.

If you don't speak German, you're not qualified to comment.


2.having passed a professional examination
qualified doctor/teacher/accountant etc

There are qualified instructors on hand to advise you.
highly/fully qualified

a fully qualified nurse
professionally qualified social worker

Are you medically qualified ?
qualified to do sth
He's qualified to teach biology at high school level.



B. Entitle: 使…有权享受,一般由于某个正式的头衔让一个人有权享受什么东西,一般用于被动,后面接sth或 to do sth

1.to give someone the official right to do or have something
be entitled to (do) sth

Full-time employees are entitled to receive health insurance.
entitle sb to sth

Membership entitles you to the monthly journal.


C. Eligible: adj. 有资格的,一般为贷款,政府津贴,选举等

1.someone who is eligible for something is able or allowed to do it, for example because they are the right age
eligible for

Students on a part-time course are not eligible for a loan.
eligible to do sth

Over 500,000 18-year-olds will become eligible to vote this year.
2.[only before noun] 
an eligible man or woman would be good to marry because they are rich, attractive, and not married

Stephen was regarded as an eligible bachelor .
