 Graduate Project Engineer 


Location: Melbourne

Overview

The Project Engineer will be involved in assisting throughout the project lifecycle from estimating to project management and delivery. The focus of the Project Engineer is to provide support for our estimating and operational staff with basic functions as detailed below. This role offers some client & supplier interaction. The successful Project Engineer will also liaise with our Manufacturing, Security and Infrastructure divisions.


Position Summary

  • This is a full time contract position

  • Engagement is under the “Professional Employees Award 2010”

  • The minimum term of the contract is 12 months subject to 3 month probationary period

  • Primarily based in our Thomastown office with some site based work as required


Roles & Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not be limited to:

  • Filing, collating, photocopying, printing and data entry etc.

  • Assisting with tender submissions

  • Preparing working drawings for electrical projects

  • General project engineering and administration duties

  • Support operational staff in the preparation of client side documentation such as as-built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals

  • Report writing


Additional Opportunities

  • Review of project specifications and plans to provide quantitative analysis

  • Liaise with the client and other construction professionals, such as site managers, project managers, electrical engineers and quantity surveyors

  • Collaboration with our switchboard manufacturing engineers and workshop manager in the design and construction of low voltage switchboards

  • Practical on site experience

  • Exposure to AutoCAD and other engineering software

  • Working with major retail companies.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Electrical Engineering (or similar) Degree

  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks

  • Ability to work in a team and also unsupervised

  • Excellent numeracy & literacy

  • Excellent communication and organisational ability

  • Ability to adapt and learn in a fast paced environment

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software will be preferred

About the role

Tristar’s ongoing graduate program means we have a Graduate opening for a Control Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will work alongside Engineers, Designers, Drafters, Sales and our Electricians in the field, being exposed to all aspects of project execution from the quote to commissioning.

You will gain exposure to a variety of projects and learn critical skills to give you a passion for making a difference.


What we are looking for in a Graduate

  • Strong academic record and a genuine interest in the areas of Electrical Engineering, IT, IoT and automation.

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering (eg. Electrical / Mechatronics / Control Systems Engineering...)

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, good verbal and written communication skills

  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of people in various contexts

  • The initiative to identify and implement improvements to processes and/or environments

  • Interested in working amongst a friendly and supportive work environment

  • Most importantly you will need to be innovative, curious, willing to learn, and be as passionate as we are about delivering on our company Vision.

The talents you’ll bring

  • You’ll have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business ( Business /Finance /Commerce) within the last 24 months with a Credit Average

  • You’ll bring plenty of bright ideas, a hunger to learn and a collaborative and curious mindset

  • A natural problem solver, you’ll have the ability to apply your technical skills to practical problems

  • Being a strong communicator with great interpersonal skills, you’ll be comfortable interacting (both verbally and in writing) with a diverse range of people

  • While you’ll have the support of your mentor, buddy, manager and team, you’ll need to be really organised and confident working on your own initiative
