Message from His Excellency Mr Graham Fletcher, Ambassador of Australia to the People's Republic of China on the coronavirus:

I would like to join the Prime Minister of Australia in recognising the immense and resolute efforts of the Chinese authorities and the Chinese people in responding to the coronavirus. It has been a stressful time for many and has impacted many in China and the global community.

The stories of Chinese doctors, nurses, families and communities working tirelessly to treat those with the virus and protect the broader population have been inspirational.

The Australian Government stands with the people of China and has assisted by providing supplies of needed protective equipment. Our scientists and researchers, including at the CSIRO, are working with partners in the scientific community to better understand the characteristics of the virus, work that will be critical to developing an effective vaccine.

We are with you at this challenging time, and we hope to see China emerge successfully from this trial.
