I understand that automated scoring can assess grammar, vocabulary and spelling because Microsoft word can do this as well. However, how can it evaluate the content of what has been written?

另外Karen还提到了考生应注意不要只注重语法上的结构内容，内容的丰富程度和完整的论据论点才是得分关键。

"Well we use the unique techniques and analysis  to evaluate the content, so it getting beyond the words you literally use and the meaning of those words, and when the new essays comes in, what we do is we compare the content of that new essay against the contents of all the essays that have been previously scored by humans. And we will see that the new essay looks more like the essays that humans gave scores of 1, or scores of 2 or 3.

So it based on looking at the SIMILARITY OF CONTENT between new essay and the others. In addition towards other features like you see in the programs of how it works, we also looking at the spelling and grammar. But really, we can get the content too and make sure the candidate is expressing their ideas and opinions fully, not just giving us grammatical senses."
